Happy Valentine’s Day from Soft Ride

At Soft Ride we’re thrilled the days are getting a little bit longer and giving us a chance to spend more time with our equine friends. The weather is getting nicer and we’re all starting to get back on the road and into the performance arenas or out on of favorite trails for a little backcountry riding. Since Valentine’s Day is all about spoiling the ones you love the most we want to make sure as many hooves as possible are sinking into our comfortable gels this season! Make sure you check out our Soft Ride Comfort Boots for those long trailer rides to fairgrounds this season, or our SoftRider shoes if you’re looking for the comfort of gel sole protection when riding!

SoftRider Nail Free Application Methods

SoftRider shoes can be applied
with or without nails.

SoftRiders are commonly nailed on like traditional horse shoes, but when nails cannot be applied either because of a compromised hoof wall or a desire for alternative application there are nail-free application methods. Check out our video of Stuart Muir, resident farrier for Rood and Riddle, introducing three methods he uses for applying SoftRider Max shoes to laminitis horses. These methods include using vet wrap or elastikon to apply the shoe to the hoof with impression material, casting the shoe on with traditional casting tape, and using a kevlar cuff screwed to the shoe for glue application to the hoof wall.

Rood and Riddle International Podiatry Summit

The International Podiatry Conference aims to bring together experienced equine veterinarians and farriers for skill development and discussion. The ability to meet and discuss techniques will help advance the skill set of all attending, raise new questions, formulate new areas of research, and facilitate contacts between veterinarians and farriers. This conference will feature lectures, demos, and hands-on wet labs for participating vets and farriers.

Saved by Soft Ride

January on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada isn’t supposed to be below -5 degrees Celsius. However this year (and the past two in honesty) have been quite cold. The horses get frisky in the now -23 degrees and in this picture is Odesza (BWF 2019 Gaudi Filly). She was clowning around and pulled a front shoe. In this weather we can’t wait a week for the farrier to come, so to protect her from frozen ground I immediately put on her Soft Ride Comfort Boots. She can wear them 24 hours a day without rubs or abrasion. I take them off daily but there is never an issue. Thank you. I love your Soft Ride Boots. They certainly have more uses than just the long trailer rides to the south for training and so appreciate that very much

Thank you,
Joey Kerr and Odesza
