Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is the recognized celebration of the workforce in America. The celebration, including the famous Labor Day Parade, has been held for over 140 years and commemorates the social and economic contributions of the American worker. Labor Day is also the unofficial end of summer, although in most of the country the weather is still quite warm. However you celebrate Labor Day, we bet it puts the idea of crisp autumn air and shortening days into your head. For us, the beginning of autumn marks our busiest travel time of year for shows and conferences, so we’re hitting the pavement hard both for educational events and competitive shows. If you find yourself on this road this Labor Day, or as we head into finals season, make sure your equine companion is safe and protected from the ground up.

Learn About Soft Ride Boots

Soft Ride Boots on the Move!

Trevor Brazile and Miles Baker certainly had an exciting week! Pride and Joyy “Kilo” spent the afternoon strutting his stuff through some pretty exclusive venues. Trevor and Miles made sure Kilo was safe and supported in his Soft Ride Boots on the concrete and tile floors. We’re excited to see what they’ve been up to when the photos are released on 10/15!

While most of our horses aren’t shopping at the mall with us, Soft Ride Boots are often used by service horses, ponies, mini horses, and donkeys. The ADA recognizes mini horses as service animals and Soft Ride is proud to help them do their jobs safely and comfortably. Emotional support equine also use Soft Ride boots when visiting patients in hospitals and facilities. The patented traction design prevents slipping on tile surfaces and the deep gel orthotics help keep hooves supported so the service animals can concentrate on their job of bringing emotional comfort and healing to the individuals they visit.

Fall laminitis is just as serious as spring laminitis. If you notice your horse displaying signs of sore-footedness or lameness get them in Soft Ride boots and call your vet immediately.

2023 Equine Sports Medicine Symposium

Last weekend Soft Ride sponsored the Equine Sports Medicine Symposium in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Carolina Equine Sports Medicine Educational Foundation presented this conference focused on the equine back. While many people think of Soft Ride boots, shoes, and Ice Spas as exclusively for the hoof, it is quite apparent that soundness in the hooves and legs clearly equates to overall health and proper structural anatomy throughout the horse.

The conference provided two days of thought provoking lectures and labs including Dr. Kirk Peck’s address of the team approach to sports medicine for horses. Yogi Sharp also addressed the importance of proper farriery on the hind end for success. Sharp applied SoftRider shoes in his demonstration as an example of accommodative devices to promote soundness and natural movement on the rear hooves as well as the front. Online participants received a Soft Ride presentation including before and after videos of horses in SoftRider shoes while in-person attendees were able to visit our table for more information.

OEPS | Rood & Riddle

We are currently in Lexington, Kentucky attending the OEPS meeting. Soft Ride’s sponsorship has helped fund scholarships for travel and accommodation expenses for third year students from all eligible vet schools across America to attend this conference. Our hope at Soft Ride is that by sponsoring the OEPS conference and encouraging large animal veterinary students to interact with the top professionals in the business, we can help fill the ranks of equine vet clinics across the country. Encouraging dialogue between new, young vets and their established counterparts is critical to the veterinary industry. By introducing these students to the assets and opportunities available to them we hope to fuel the veterinary industry of the future.

Opportunities in Equine Practice Seminar (OEPS) is the leading student forum in equine veterinary medicine, with over 3,900 students attending. Third-year veterinary students attend the meeting, where they receive information about various avenues and disciplines of equine practice, employment, and practice ownership. Students gain valuable information through face-to-face encounters and presentations from current practitioners, and veterinary practice management consultants. .
