Hauling into Summertime

Like many of you, travel is on the schedule this summer at Soft-Ride. We’ve already been on the road from Kentucky to Texas this year and we’re excited to continue supporting veterinary and farrier clinics and conferences learning the newest techniques and recommendations for keeping your horses sound. Soft Ride strives to help connect academic research with medical practices and horse owners. It’s always been our goal to bridge the gap for the good of the horse. Making sure all the people on your horses’ team are on the same page when it comes to soundness, maintenance, and lameness prevention or management is an important part of your horses’ wellness.

We hope Soft Ride boots will be a part of your routine as you start loading trailers this summer. Whether it's for a cross country trip, competition, or a simple drive down the road to your vet, comfort and support make for better travel for both you and your horse!

New Developments in Management of Acute & Chronic Laminitis

Earlier this month Soft Ride sponsored a VetPD online conference focused on the newest developments in laminitis research. Discussion leaders at this conference were Dr. Fran James, Dr. Andrew Van Eps, Dr. Edd Knowles, and Dr. Jaret Pullen. The three hour panel covered many new developments for diagnosis and treatment of laminitis including digital venogram reading, pharmaceuticals for insulin dysregulation, hypometabolic effect of cooling.

We were very interested in the further research of the relationship between circulation in the hoof and laminitis diagnosis and treatment. The vasculature of the hoof is shown in the photo below in the vascular casts made by Dr. Jared Pullen. Soft Ride’s deep gel orthotics are specifically designed to stimulate circulation through this vasculature by encouraging the natural load-bearing perfusion of the hoof which is why they are so helpful in helping to keep laminitic horses more comfortable.

Horse Industry Podcast

We will be interviewed by Dr. Regina of the Horse Industry Podcast early next week and spend some time discussing what Soft Ride boots are, how they can be used, and what information clients need to have to get the most out of our products. The podcast will be available in mid-July on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Radio Public, Pocket Cast and wherever public podcasts are available. We’re looking forward to answering some of our most common questions about the boots during this interview.

Keeping it in the Family: Summer Break

Roger and Betty Ruetenik, parents to Soft-Ride’s founders and current owners, out for a ride, circa 1950

Soft Ride has worked over the last two decades to be a global presence, shipping internationally to over 50 countries, being stocked in over 6,000 veterinary clinics, and in use in every veterinary teaching hospital in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

But, at our heart, we’re a small family business. Our operation is very close knit, employing just a handful of people across the US. Many of us are direct family members, or staff we care about like family. We have always made the quality of life among our employees a top priority. That means we make a point of having two one-week vacations a year, one in the summer and one in the winter, so our staff can take the time to focus on their families. Our summer holiday this year is July 1st through the 5th. We will reopen for shipping and customer service on Monday July 8th. Our website ordering system will continue to operate normally during that time and any order placed will leave our facility when we reopen. We appreciate all our loyal customers giving us this time to focus on our human and equine family, and who knows, maybe when we’re all together this break we’ll brainstorm the next amazing Soft Ride product to help keep your equine family safe and comfortable!
